Diego Minuti, Trapani, 1956.
In 1960 he moved to Cosenza where he currently lives and works. He graduated from the Art School of Cosenza and completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, under the guidance of the masters F. Farulli and D. Viggiani. Since 1980 he has assiduously attended the Roman studio of the master Riccardo Tommasi Ferroni, where thanks to his precious advice he learned the secrets of the techniques used by the great masters of the past.
In 2011 he participated in the 54th Venice Biennale.
For some years his research has become more analytical, Minuti’s investigation ranges from the dimension of reality to the oneiric-conceptual one, using in addition to the materials of classical painting, everything that can give stimulus to his creativity, marble – wood – bronze – mosaic etc. thus giving his art more space to three-dimensionality, often arriving at creating real Pitto-Sculptural cycles. His art evokes enchanted images full of mystery, sometimes using classical or mythological themes as a pretext, all of which serves to give vent to his continuous and frantic research with the belief that everything can be used to create emotions and new magic. With the tones of black, brown, and ochre, he brings out the ghosts of the unconscious on his strongly material works, fragments of the artist’s private memory, childhood memories, objects, shadows and dreams that have long remained in the drawer, which mix with landscapes full of symbols and matter. The atmosphere is always muffled, suspended. Quotes from the past, marble heads – busts – hands – toys and so on, remain trapped in the layers of color or in the various materials as in the meshes of “memory”.
His works are found in important public and private collections.
