Rebecca Forster, born in St. Albans, England, on 17th April 1960, took her degree at Norwich School of Art specializing in sculpture.
Over the last few years, her work has stemmed from an interesting investigation into the possibilities of linking drawing and sculpture together. In fact, she draws in pencil on big sheets of paper which she tears and folds, rendering them three-dimensional. Alongside paper, she works by etching and chasing large sheets of zinc or brass in making her ‘volcanoes’. Rebecca also cuts stories into hats, that become wearable sculptures. The thread running through all her work is drawing, drawing which also becomes sculpture.
In Rebecca Forster’s work there are maps of the cities she has explored – Milan, New York, Piacenza, Naples, Zurich – together with references to the cultures of the countries where she has spent long periods – Cyprus, Greece and Italy, where she has her studio.
Her work tells interwoven stories, to be discovered in the details, constantly changing and surprising, as in a large, open diary.
Rebecca Forster’s work has been shown in numerous solo and group shows in England, the U.S.A., in Greece and in Italy, and has been reviewed widely.
