Polychrome terracotta created using the engobe technique
"Engobe is a covering and decorating technique for terracotta and ceramics. The term 'engobe' originates from the French word 'engober,' meaning to cover with a layer of clay. It is commonly used in modern technical language to refer to a clay-based coating that covers the ceramic body. Although the working techniques differ, the composition and characteristics remain similar. Therefore, the term 'engobe' can be applied to ceramic production from ancient times to the present day."

Born in Nao (Vibo Valentia) in 1950. He currently lives and works in Milan, where he arrived in 1969.
After obtaining his high school diploma in art, he attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and came into contact with some prominent figures in the Milanese art scene, eventually becoming an assistant to the artist Giangiacomo Spadari.
Subsequently he came to know the French artistic environment this was 70s, a time when culture was closely intertwined with political and social events. Deodato developed his artistic creations around these actions, which he then exhibited in Italy and abroad.
In the early 1980s, he primarily worked with the Gastaldelli Gallery, subsequently exhibiting in various public and private spaces: Il Milione, Cardi, Klerks, Progettoarte ELM (Milan), Cristofori (Bologna), Narciso (Turin), Claudio Poleschi (Lucca), Art Events (Benevento), Susanna Orlando (Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi), Ambrosino (Miami), Foro Italico (Rome), Museo Paolo Pini, Fondazione Pomodoro (Milan), Contemporary Art Platform (Kuwait City).

This path has continued into the new millennium:Deodato, a humanist and alchemist of images, perpetually transitioning between sculpture and painting, continues to narrate the story of humanity with a severe yet gentle gaze, sharp and poetic, open to the marvelous and the fantastical.
